Driveway Cleaning And Patio Cleaning Services
The driveway and patio cleaning process:
The cleaning process for driveways and patios will vary according to the different types of surfaces to be cleaned. Some services and products are not suited to all types of surfaces (for instance certain types of block paving or stonework are not suitable for the application of driveway sealants).
Stage 1 : Weeding Block Paving or Flagged Areas
The first step in many driveway and patio cleaning projects has to be the removal of weeds. Once our driveway or patio cleaning technician has been out to see you he might recommend the application of weedkiller treatments so that when they return to carry out your driveway clean much of the weeds which might well have grown through your block paving are already dead and can be easily removed once the high pressure water based equipment treatment commences. This is not always necessary and your technician can advise you better on this with an initial visit to your property to evaluate the cleaning treatments required and provide a no obligation quote.
Stage 2: The Driveway Cleaning Process (Patios Too)
The cleaning process involves using high pressure water based professional cleaning equipment which comprises of either flat surface rotary cleaners which literally spins around on the area being cleaned, lifting dirt and moss from the area, or technicians may use a turbo boost water jet for hard to reach areas (for example corners and raised areas). This produces a similar effect but simply uses different equipment to achieve the same result.
Please note that if the area being cleaned is block paving or other areas which has sand fillings (i.e. sand between block paviours), the sand will be lifted and will need reapplying after the area is completely dry.
Step 3: The Sanding Process (Not all areas require this process)
As a result of the cleaning process, any sanded areas (e.g. sand between block paviours), will need to be re-sanded. This must be carried out when the surface is completely dry and the sand used is a very fine sand often referred to as 'kiln dried sand' which is brushed lightly into the area with the sand dropping down between the blocks as the brushing processing is carried out. If there are any damp areas either on the surface of the blocks or between the blocks this can lead to 'clumping' of the sand and optimum results will not be achieved.
Ideally, re-sanding should be carried out on a warm, dry day.
Stage 4: The Sealing Process (Again, not all areas require or are suitable for sealant application)
Driveway sealants provide a highly effective bond which helps to prevent dirt and oil penetrating the surface areas after cleaning. The sealant is applied and forms a type of bond over the blocks onto which dirt and oil may still fall but cannot penetrate to get into the blockwork and therefore is much easier to remove without difficulty in the future.
Driveway sealants also help to keep weeds down on block paved areas.
In order for driveway sealants to work successfully it is necessary for blocks to be even without large gaps as the sealant needs to form a complete single seal over the whole surface to obtain optimum results.
In addition, driveway and block paving sealants should also be applied only in dry, warm weather (ideally from Spring onwards) to again obtain the best results possible.
